The Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve extends for around 766 acres of primary and secondary forest. Nowadays it is managed by the Santa Elena's Professional Technical school and the profits obtained are used to help the community youths and the development of courses related with environmental education, languages, biology and tourism of the same preservation area.
In this reserve you can admire a great variety of animals; such as the sounds of the Bellbird, the Quetzal and far away the Congo. Through the main different trails that the reserve has (Cano Negro, Encantado, El Bajo and The Youth Challenge) you will be able to observe the howler monkeys, the footfalls of the shy Puma, the tepezcuintle and the Coati; all this and more will make of your experience in Monteverde unforgettable.
