Getting to Monteverde from San Jose

By Car
From San Jose to Monteverde is around 4 hours drive. You must follow the Panamerican Highway in route to Puntarenas. After the crossing of Puntarenas continue for around 40 minutes to Rancho Grande town.
Once arrived there, turn right towards Sardinal town, it's around 12 kilometers of paved road, there will still be 26 kilometers of gravel road until arriving to Santa Elena (Monteverde). On the way you will pass a town called Guacimal.

By Bus
The buses from San Jose to Monteverde leave every day at 6:30AM and 2:30PM from Terminal Atlantico Norte. The duration of the trip is approximately 5 hrs. The same departure times apply for the bus that leaves Monteverde towards San Jose.
