Getting to Monteverde from Liberia

Driving south from Liberia to San Jose on the Panamerican Highway, you will need to turn left on a detour to Las Juntas, 14 kilometers of paved road to get to the town from that point. Continue up the mountain for around 24 kilometers of gravel road, there will be signs to Santa Elena (Monteverde). From Las Juntas to Monteverde is around 1.4 hours.

By Bus
There are buses from Liberia, Nicoya, Santa Cruz, Tamarindo, Flamingo, Montezuma, Playas del Coco and Samara to Lagarto or Las Juntas town. The bus leaves Las Juntas at 2:30PM, specifically from La Irma Gas Station towards Santa Elena. It takes 2 hours to arrive over gravel road. The departure from Santa Elena Bus Station to Las Juntas is at 4:30AM.
